{"id":67,"date":"2017-05-06T19:19:31","date_gmt":"2017-05-06T18:19:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/masala-dosa-diaries.winchcombe.org\/?page_id=67"},"modified":"2017-05-11T13:18:06","modified_gmt":"2017-05-11T12:18:06","slug":"whats-the-design-about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/masala-dosa-diaries.winchcombe.org\/index.php\/whats-the-design-about\/","title":{"rendered":"what&#8217;s the design about?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Imagine you&#8217;re in southern India, sat in a restaurant or someone&#8217;s home, it&#8217;s lunch time.<br \/>\nLunch arrives, is served and you look down at your &#8220;plate&#8221;.<br \/>\nYes, I&#8217;ve designed the page to represent standard food of South India, with a masala dosa set on a banana leaf plate and lots of chutneys\/condiments on the side. <\/p>\n<div class=\"foodPagePanel\">\nAt the top we have the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Masala_dosa\">masala dosa<\/a><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/masala-dosa-diaries.winchcombe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/masaladosa-300x65.png\" alt=\"Masala Dosa\" width=\"350\" height=\"65\"  \/><br \/>\nDosas are crispy pancake-like foods which are made from a mixture of rice and lentils and can be eaten at at time of the day, being served hot with an accompaniment of sambar (lentil based stew) or chutneys.<br \/>\nThey are a staple food in the South Indian diet.<br \/>\nA masala dosa is a normal dosa filled with sweet potato.\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"foodPagePanel\">\nThe background of the page is <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Banana_leaf\">a banana leaf which is often used as a food plate.<\/a><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/masala-dosa-diaries.winchcombe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/bananaleaf2-1920-90pc-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"190\"  \/><br \/>\nA banana leaf is laid down in front of the diner who is then given a range of dishes containing different foods, often to eat using their hands. To a westerner who&#8217;s used to eating with cutlery, using fingers seems odd, but it truly gives you a bigger connection to the food you are eating.\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"foodPagePanel\">\nCoconut chutney<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/masala-dosa-diaries.winchcombe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ChutneyCoconut.png\" alt=\"Coconut Chutney\" style=\"width:250px; height:250px; margin:0 auto;\" \/><br \/>\nThe condiment is made with coconut pulp ground with other ingredients such as tamarind and green chillies.<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Coconut_chutney\">Wikipedia<\/a><br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sailusfood.com\/2012\/06\/27\/hotel-style-coconut-chutney\/\">Recipe (not tried)<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"foodPagePanel\">\nMysore chutney<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/masala-dosa-diaries.winchcombe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ChutneyChana-300x298.png\" alt=\"Mysore Chutney\" style=\"width:250px; height:250px; margin:0 auto;\" \/><br \/>\nA chutney made from chick peas and lentils.<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tarladalal.com\/Mysore-Chutney-South-Indian-Mysore-Chutney-1657r\">Recipe (not tried)<\/a><\/div>\n<div  class=\"foodPagePanel\">\nTomato chutney<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/masala-dosa-diaries.winchcombe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/ChutneyTomato-300x296.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:250px; height:250px; margin:0 auto;\" \/><br \/>\nAn often spicy chutney which is sometimes made with cloves.
